The Old Pod
A music player for people who own their music.
The Old Pod is a pair of apps — iPhone and Mac — that play the music and audiobooks you already have. There is no store, no streaming, no account to create, and no ads. Your library is a folder of files in your iCloud Drive; the apps are two views onto that folder.
Drag an album in from the Finder, and it's on your phone. Delete a file, and it's gone. The files are the truth; the app never holds your music hostage.
How it works
- A folder of MP3 and M4A files. That's the whole library. Nothing is imported into a vault, nothing is locked in.
- iCloud Drive keeps devices in step. Your existing iCloud — no new account, no separate service. Fully offline once files are on the device, and a purely local folder works too.
- Nothing else. No recommendations, no badges, no analytics, nothing collected. The app wants nothing from you.
What it does
- Artists, Albums, Songs, Playlists
- Queue, shuffle, repeat, search
- Audiobooks that remember your place and speed
- Get Info to edit a song's details and artwork
- WMA files converted to M4A on import
- Lock Screen & Control Center playback
- Sidebar, song table, media keys, mini player
It works the way music software used to, back when it did less and did it well: you see your music, you pick something, and it plays.
